Working in a nursery : Day 1

These are fragments from my diary since I'm lazy to re-remember everything. Haha~ These are my experiences working in the nursery. All in all, it isn't that bad but it was a REALLY tiring job. 11 hours a day.

Day 1

Started work. I have no comment. The kids are terrific but the teachers are strict. I love the kids~ There are 9 3-year-olds under my care and they are not very naughty. Just a little playful.

First impressions of the kids :

Royston : Cute. He was the first 3-year-old that I met. Was quite shy when we met but he opened up when I told him a story. Really clever and speaks the most. The way he pronounces 'teacher' is so cute! It sounds like 'thi-the' or something. He rarely cries and he's really alert. He always hugs me. OMG I'm gonna melt. When he hugs me in front and looks up with a big smile, I feel so happy! He demands the most attention out of everyone and always wants me to sit with him. Hahaha XD

Darrius : I thought he is lucky to have brown hair. Looks like his elder brother very much. He got scolded often because he refuses to read out during lessons. He was sent to stand by the side and he cried his eyes out. He became quieter after that.

Geodvan : One of the youngest in the class. He has such big eyes! Don't talk most of the time or even if he did, I can't make out what he's saying. >.< Sleepy in the middle of his meals. He is always zoning out and is the only one who wears a diaper. He didn't care about me at first but I'm glad he did at the end.

Howard : They pronounced his name as 'Harvard'. I don't understand why. He is really quiet and has big eyes. He doesn't talk but I'm glad I got him to talk at the end.

Brendan : A blur guy and always seems to be in his own world. Haha~ Actually a lot of kids are also like that. He's kinda a slow learner because he's the youngest of the bunch. That's why I'm happy when he managed to play with his toys properly. Doesn't speak much too.

Savannah : Beautiful curly brown hair! No other recollection of her on my first day. >.<

Jing Xuan : Celebrated her birthday. Her parents bought a chocolate cake. It was hard to get them all to stand together to take a picture. No one wished her 'Happy Birthday' except me and Teacher Coleen. She looked so sad, as if she's aware that her classmates did not wish her 'Happy Birthday' but they do know it's her birthday because I asked them. Haha

Sasha : Everyone calls her 'Sasa'. OMG WHY. She's petite and moves very fast. Screams when someone took her toys or if her toys accidentally happened to be with her friend's toys. But she's a good kid. Very clever and delightful. Found out that she's my ex-Aunty Van's niece.

May : Quiet and quite unresponsive. Speaks Mandarin. Most of her classmates speaks English surprisingly. She's actually 4 years old but her birthday is on December and has a hard time catching up so she's in a year below. Even on this class, she's struggling. She speaks really softly but she rarely speaks. I love it when she gave me a smile when I wiped her leftover tears. So surprising. <3

I am impressed with myself for being able to remember all their name on my first day. Yay to me! =D

It was their first day eating solid food since all these while they were eating porridge so meal times are a bit of a struggle. Darrius vomited when Teacher tried to feed him too much food (I think?). Geodvan is always sleepy so it was hard to get him to eat. I will feed the slow eaters because they should finish their food following the schedule.

Kids who finished their food early are allowed to play inside the playing pen. Of course, the kids are very excited. At one point, Royston knocked something or someone pushed him, he hurt his lips and it bleed. WTF I so scare later they think I didn't look after the kids properly.

After meal time, the bathing begins. It was hectic, bathing 9 kids with only Teacher Coleen to help. She takes off their clothes and I dressed them. Then, they'll have to sit in a row and drink their milk. They used cups and Geodvan being his sleepy self again, poured milk all over himself, just right after a shower. OTZ

I was supposed to go bath him again, change his clothes and dry the clothes but I was told to go look after the kids napping so I went. He ended up in the kitchen, still staring blanking at the cup and his milk. He was sent to bed and I realized that he haven't change his clothes so I woke him up and the maid helped me bath him again. I dressed him again and sent him to nap once more. Then, I proceed to wash his milk-stained clothes.

Nap time : 1.30pm - 3.30pm.

Bath again when they woke up and everyone went downstairs for tea time. When we walked down the stairs, they have to line up. Girls first. Geodvan was last and we held hands but then I saw Brendan having difficulties walking down the stairs so I let go of his hand and helped Brendan. Geodvan looked startled for a moment and his tiny hands reached out and retracted several times when I was beside him again, not sure whether it was okay to hold my hand. I just grab his hand and he held it again.

It happened once more. He let go of the handle, which is something he mustn't do, and stood at the side without handles and looked at me. I think it means he wants me to hold his hand when going down the stairs... he even waited at the top of the stairs until I am free so I can hold his hand again and go down. Just before he goes home, he looked back at me. I am so happy. Haha <3

Everyone went home pretty quickly. They are all so excited to see their parents. Even I am excited to wait for my mom to fetch me from work. Howard and Savannah was the last to go home.

We played in the pen while waiting for their parents. There is a playing house inside. Howard slipped and landed on his back, an arch behind his back. He cried. I felt guilty. I was looking at Savannah when he slipped so I didn't see how it happened.

I didn't dare tell anyone but I did tell a teacher after that. He was then called out and asked to sit at another pen. This time only with chairs. The pens' height are only until my chest so I reached my hand over and touched his head at the pen that he is in. He looked up at me and cried again. I can't comfort him because the teachers think it was unnecessary. It stung my heart.

I hope Howard is okay. I'm so worried.

Please let me be a good teacher.

Shopping for Japan trip and CNY

Exam week is here and I only have 3 papers.. There's a long break between my papers so I went home since it's been a long time.. The house looks different everytime I go back because we are renovating.      For the past few months, or should say years, I've been sharing a bed with mom. I has come to the point where I'm too big to even fit in -.- so they moved my sleeping quarter to my cousins' room. I prefer sleeping there as I have my own space after soooo long.. And it's very comfortable. I like to just lay in it at night and ponder about life.      On Saturday, we went shopping! I've never really shopped properly since I've entered MMU, which is about 7 months... because the time constraint just doesn't allow me to. We shopped for CNY but I think it's mostly for our Japan trip this October.. >.> I think I can just re-wear last year's outfits since some of them are still unused. My God, I sound like a cheapskate. ...
